Faith and timing

Faith, customs and timing

Tell us at the start what matters to your family. We plan around it as far as the local authorities and the airline allow, and tell you plainly what the timing will be.

Muslim families

Burial is hoped for as soon as possible. We look for the earliest release and flight the paperwork allows, and can arrange ritual washing (ghusl) where the death happened when it is available there.

Jewish families

Burial is usually as soon as possible, with the ritual preparation (tahara) arranged with the community. Tell us which community or burial society you are working with.

Hindu and Sikh families

Some families want the body home so the cremation can be carried out by the family. Others prefer cremation where the death happened and bring the ashes home, sometimes for immersion in India.

Christian and other families

Tell us about the funeral you are planning at home and when, and about any wishes for clothing, a viewing or the coffin.

Embalming

Most countries and airlines require embalming to carry a body internationally. If your faith discourages it, tell us, and we will check what the authorities and the airline accept on your route.

When the authorities need more time

A post-mortem or an investigation can hold the body for days or weeks, whatever the family's wishes. When that happens we tell you what is causing the wait and what we expect.
