Travel insurance
If they had travel insurance
Many travel policies cover repatriation. Some insurers want to approve the provider and the cost before anything is booked, so it helps to bring them in early.
- A written, itemised quote you can send to the insurer
- Nothing booked until you, and the insurer if needed, agree

What to check
- The policy documents, or the insurer's name and policy number
- The insurer's 24-hour assistance number, usually on the policy or the card
- Whether repatriation is covered, and up to what amount
- Whether the insurer must approve the provider or the cost first
Cover can also come from a credit card used to book the trip, or from an employer's travel policy if the trip was for work.
How we work with the insurer
We send you one written quote that sets out what is included. You can pass it to the insurer for approval before anything is booked.
If the insurer decides to appoint its own provider, that is its choice under the policy, and we will tell you plainly.
If the policy does not cover everything, or there is no insurance, the quote shows you what the family would pay.
